About brackt
brackt is a portfolio of free financial calculators built because the existing tools — ClearTax, Groww, the bank-branded ones — all push signup walls, ads, and nudges toward products you didn't ask about. The numbers they produce are often right. The experience of getting to them is not.
The tax engine is verified to the rupee against the Income Tax Department's own salary
calculator at eportal.incometax.gov.in. The engine is pure functional and runs
entirely in your browser — no server call, no payload sent anywhere, no analytics on what
you type into the calculator. There is no account system because there is no need for one.
We don't track usage at the field level. We don't ask for your email. The URL encodes your
inputs so you can share a specific calculation, and that is the full extent of state we
touch.
brackt is built and maintained by one person. It stays free, and it stays free without the usual price — there is no account to create, no email to hand over, no newsletter waiting to be dismissed. The site is supported by ads on the articles and around the calculator results, and that is the whole business model. Ads pay for the hosting; your data does not. The two ideas are kept deliberately apart, which is why nothing you type into a calculator is ever sent to a server, sold, or used to target anything back at you. If that arrangement ever has to change, this page changes first.
Your actual payslip may differ slightly from brackt's estimate depending on how your company structures your CTC — Basic salary percentage, whether Employer PF and Gratuity are inside or outside the stated CTC, and how Special Allowance is allocated. Use the toggle in the salary calculator to match your offer letter's structure, or open Customise CTC structure to tune exact percentages.
The salary calculator is the first of twelve tools on the roadmap. The others cover what working professionals actually need to compute: regime comparison, SIP returns, EMI, retirement corpus, stock-compensation tax, capital gains, freelance tax, housing allowance, withholding reconciliation, year-over-year comparison. India is the launch market; the same tooling extends to other countries' tax systems as we go. More tools ship as brackt grows. None of them will require a login.
Articles are written for adults. We don't hedge, we don't pad, we cite the IT Act when it matters. The archive is at /learn. If we get something wrong — a slab misread, a regulation that changed, an example that doesn't reflect your actual payslip — write to [email protected] and we'll fix it.
